Begin Again: Feeling fresh for Autumn

Dear Reader,

How have you been? How is your heart lately?

For the past few weeks, I have felt pulled toward the two ends of a spectrum where life has either been overwhelmingly good or overwhelmingly bad. Well, good or bad are relative. And so does feeling overwhelmed. And that could suggest that adapting to the churning of life has been rather sticky for me.

For example, I have been wanting to reach out with a proper letter to you using a new mailing provider (What do you think of this no-frills interface btw?). But the thought of setting up a new mailing system, porting over emails, and worrying whether this leads to your spam rather than your main inbox – all of those mental sundries can make it a great deal of a hurdle to cross. For the past weeks, it felt like I was observing a fog passing, and the clear days were rare. So I sit, and I wait.

I waited and observed.

I waited and turned to my prayers.

I think I have forgotten how dependable and humbling it feels to lean into prayers. With nothing to give, except for my remembrance of the name of God, there in return was an unmatched level of comfort that is so personal and deeply felt.

When was your last prayer and how did it save you?

The mind fog is slowly clearing out, though ironically, we are observing a haze in Singapore.

Regardless, in my orbit, I’m sensing a shift unearthing and it is slowly detailing out its roots. That too has resulted in me speaking less because I value the space I’m taking up in your life, and the space I’m giving myself not to be performative. Because, let’s be honest, so much in life demands performance. In this little nook, I just want to keep it simple.

Today celebrates the joyous occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi. A day which often brings me lightness and joy, as I devote my time to cleaning my altar, starting afresh. With simplicity on the menu, I am doing the same for the upcoming offerings in Autumn/Winter.

Nothing too complicated, and all the remedies and space we need to remember presence and slow down.

If you’re feeling the call towards a gentle tending to your body, mind and heart, I hope some of these offerings will be the sweet ladoos for your beautiful, radiant Self.

Autumn/Winter Offerings 🍂

All classes are held at Yoga In Common.

90-minute Classes

Grounding Practice | 15 & 22 Sep, 13 & 27 Oct, 8 & 15 Dec | 7 PM

This is a 90-minute class to slow down and ground the self in the presence of peace. It's an asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breath regulation), and dhyana (meditation) practice rooted in the traditional view of Yoga's primary intention — to free oneself from physical bondage and find lightness and joy from within.

If you're looking for a practice that guides you toward a calmer mind and steadier breath, this is the right class for you. Unlike popular notions of yoga in the modern world, we're not here to chase bendy postures or inversions just to look good. The intention of a yoga practice is to steady the body, breath, and mind, cultivating an open field for a deep state of mental stillness.

Rituals: Self-Massage | 27 Oct, 24 Nov, 22 Dec | 7 PM

Self-massage is one of the most potent and accessible rituals for pouring love and attention into our own body. This 90-minute session invites us to come together and explore this sacred practice, deeply valued in traditional healing systems (particularly Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine), through bite-sized, approachable components.

Each month, we'll focus on a different theme and specific body parts, exploring them on both a somatic and psychological level. Over the session, expect a deepened sense of body awareness, a well-regulated nervous system, and a quiet return to self-tenderness.

There are two options: with oil, or oil-free, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.

Soma Healing Circle | 29 Sep, 3 Nov, 1 Dec | 7 PM

This is a 90-minute somatic immersion supporting release, restoration, and embodied awareness through deep rest. In Vedic tradition, soma is the sacred drink of the gods, closely tied to immortality, and another name for the moon, whose cool light calms our nervous system.

In this small-group healing circle, we will explore the body through therapeutic postures, spinal awareness, and somatic language for a deeply felt sense of safety and ease.

Movement is minimal and responsive, gently warming the body while inviting us to listen for sensation, feedback, and patterning – supporting body, mind, and spirit in healing. No prior yoga or somatic experience is required. Arrive with an openness to listen to your body's wisdom.

2-Hour Special

Soul Shine Study Club | 26 Sep, 31 October | 2 PM

This is a supportive group space for us to live, breathe, and study together, diving into the pillars of well-being that Ayurveda offers generously. We will focus on a particular theme each month, beginning with Food (Ahara), followed by Sleep (Nidra) in our second month, and closing with Energy Management (Brahmacharya).

A dynamic way of learning includes theory, collaborative inquiry, and body-based practices to anchor the learnings holistically. You will be supported by the Study Club with resources designed to help you move through daily rhythms with confidence, clarity, and harmony.

SOL House Co There's no such thing as sleep debt. Hey Reader, yes, I said it. There's no such thing as sleep debt according to Ayurveda. The way we think of sleep has been bound to a linear timeline where we assume we could repay our week-long stretch of late nights by sleeping 12 hours on a Saturday. It is not as simple as a late payment of the hours we had forgone in rest in exchange for churning out work. Ayurveda–the traditional healing system of India–sees time as a cyclical rhythm,...
